(Part 1 of my Bible Study Series)

Why we need to know and study the Bible is the lesson of the hour. So many churches today are not preaching or teaching truth. They teach to tickle the ears instead of cut the hearts. The Bible is full of truths to live by, and it’s amazing when you read it for what it truly is — God’s Word to a fallen world.

Who Wrote It?

There were many authors over a span of more than 1,500 years — from around 1400 BC to AD 90. Writers such as Moses, David, and Isaiah, to Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and Paul, plus many more.

The Bible contains 66 books — 39 in the Old Testament and 27 in the New Testament — written in a variety of genres: law, history, poetry, prophecy, gospel, and letters. Yet through all of it, there’s one consistent message and one Author behind it all.

The ultimate author of Scripture is God Himself, writing through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. (More on the Holy Spirit in the next part!)

Can We Trust the Bible?

Yes, because God is God — and He can protect His Word.

I know that’s not enough for some people, so here are a few reasons why we can have complete confidence in the truth and reliability of Scripture.

Over the years, archaeologists have discovered ancient manuscripts — like the Dead Sea Scrolls — that confirm the incredible accuracy of the Bible we read today. These discoveries show that God has faithfully preserved His Word through the centuries, just as He promised.

There’s also historical reliability. When you compare Scripture with known history, the Bible lines up time and time again. Places, rulers, events — all confirmed through archaeology and extra-biblical writings. The Bible doesn’t just tell stories; it records real history with divine purpose.

Then there’s the harmony between science and the Bible. Many believe these are two separate worlds, but when you take the time to truly study Scripture, you see that science actually points us right back to God. Science explains how things work — the Bible reveals who made them work.

Here are a few examples:

  • Long before scientists knew the Earth hangs in space, Job 26:7 declared, “He hangs the earth on nothing.”
  • The Bible described the water cycle long before it was understood (Ecclesiastes 1:7).
  • The idea of ocean currents is found in Psalm 8:8, and the expansion of the universe is hinted at in Isaiah 40:22.

How could the writers of Scripture have known these things thousands of years before science “discovered” them? Because the Author of the Bible is the Creator of the universe.

The more we learn, the more we see that God’s Word stands firm. Truth doesn’t change, because God doesn’t change. His Word endures forever.

So, when doubts creep in, remember — God never asks us to have blind faith. He has given us overwhelming evidence through history, science, and the preservation of His Word that all point us back to Him.

Stay tuned for Part 2, where we’ll talk about the powerful role of the Holy Spirit — how He inspired the writers of Scripture and how He helps us understand and apply it today.
